§ 19-106. Purpose and objectives.

  • (a)

    The purpose of this chapter is to establish procedures and regulations for the subdivision of land within the limits of Franklin County, and to accomplish the objectives listed below:

    (b)

    Per section 15.2-2240 of the Code of Virginia to assure the orderly subdivision of land and its development through reasonable standards of design and procedures for subdivision and resubdivision of land and ensure proper legal description.

    (c)

    To ensure that the purchasers of new lots or acreage created in accord with these regulations are buying a commodity that is suitable for development and use in accordance with the laws and regulations of Franklin County, Virginia.

    (d)

    To protect and provide for the public health, safety and general welfare of all citizens.

    (e)

    To guide future growth and development in accordance with the policies of the Franklin County Comprehensive Plan, applicable zoning regulations, and other adopted policy documents of the county.

    (f)

    To coordinate proposed public facilities and streets in new subdivisions with existing public facilities and streets in a manner that promotes appropriate land design, the efficient use of land resources, and minimizes adverse effects on adjacent or nearby properties and neighborhoods.

    (g)

    To reduce and prevent water pollution and flooding.

    (h)

    To ensure appropriate development with regard to natural resources and open space, which will contribute to the beauty of the community and value of the land.
