§ 8-39. Authority to appoint deputy fire officials/fire marshal.

  • (a)

    When it is deemed necessary by the local fire official/fire marshal and approved by the county administrator, deputy fire officials/fire marshals may be appointed in each of the established fire districts to carry out the requirements of the Statewide Fire Prevention Code and Virginia Code, section 27-30, 27-31, 27-32, 27-32.1, 27-32.2, 27-33, 27-34, 27-34.1, 27-34.2, 27-34.3, 27-34.4, 27-35, 27-36 and 27-37. Deputy fire officials/fire marshals shall have a minimum of five (5) years' experience in a fire-related field, with additional experience in fire prevention and investigation preferred.

    (b)

    When appointed, each deputy fire official/fire marshal shall perform his or her respective duties as outlined in the Statewide Fire Prevention Code, acting on behalf of the local fire official/fire marshal.

    (c)

    Deputy fire officials/fire marshals shall be afforded all of the privileges, rights and remedies available to them under law when acting in their official capacity as directed by the local fire official/fire marshal.
